Taxi
Don't hail this turkey.
Starring: Queen Latifah, Jimmy Fallon, Jennifer Esposito, Gisele Bundchen, Henry Simmons, Ann-Margret
Director: Tim Story
Screenwriters: Luc Besson, Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, Jim Kouf

After catching the trailer, Taxi looked like it would be a fun (and funny) flick. Director Tim Story made the hilarious and thoughtful Barbershop, while the comedic abilities of Queen Latifa and especially Jimmy Fallon have always been spot on.
Jimmy Fallon freezes his movie career. |
Unfortunately, Taxi is the kind of crap Fallon would have mercilessly skewered when he co-anchored Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live. It's a boring, laugh free car wreck of a movie.
Fallon plays New York City cop Washburn who gets his license taken away due to his complete ineptitude in driving a car. Now wheel-less, Fallon hijacks a souped up taxi driven by Queen Latifa to aid him in nabbing a team of bank robbers. I wish I could say hilarity ensued, but I'd be lying. What you get are a bunch of actors going through the motions.
Queen Latifa plays the same role she did in Bringing Down the House, that of a feisty, independent chick who teaches a repressed white guy to loosen up. She also says "damn" alot.
As for Fallon, he may work wonders in ten minute sketches on TV, but he can't stretch his charm across an hour and a half movie. I'm a fan of Jimmy, but he's going to have to hit a grand slam next time to offset the tragedy of his first post SNL venture.
And the movie's plot holes are just as numerous as any Latifa has to maneuver her taxi around. Why doesn't anyone notice the bank robbers are women? How could Fallon become a cop without the ability to drive a car? Where did I find the strength to sit through this whole mess?
Please folks, save your money, and skip Taxi. It's the worst movie I've seen all year.
