What should a concert-goer expect if they check out a .bipolar. show? |
Mole |
A hand stamp that won't wash off no matter how many times you try and your friends will think you don't shower. And to drive at least an hour because we hardly ever play close to Sac. |
Brian
|
No ins & outs. |
Mogels |
Complete Chaos. |
Charlie
|
Exciting stage show, music, drinking, and
lots of cussing. |
SJF |
Are any of you bipolar? |
Brian |
No but we're willing to learn. |
Charlie
|
We probably all are. |
SJF |
You are a unique in that you have a female lead singer. How has that been received in the metal circuit? |
Mole |
It would be easier to play a strip club if they had shows. |
Mogels |
I wish they had shows at strip clubs. |
Brian |
Sometimes we don't get taken serious until they see us on stage and Charlie rips them a new one. |
Charlie |
Sometimes we get the macho metal guys who think women don't belong in metal or hardcore and they talk s**t. We also get some guy musicians who are just plain jealous and talk s**t. However, mostly we have gotten positive feedback from other bands. We have a list of bands that we are friends with and network with. |
SJF |
How would you describe your music? |
Mogels |
Bipolar |
Brian |
It's got a beat and you can dance to it. |
Mole |
Guitars, bass, drums, and vocals |
Charlie |
It's hard to describe. It's like a mix between Will Haven, Deftones, Acid Bath and a dying giraffe. Hardcore/screamo/metalcore/groove. I don't know. I have always had a difficult time explaining our music. I don't want to refer to it as something it's not and then get a real technical genre buster yelling at me. |
SJF |
What are your favorite bands? Albums? |
| Mogels |
Atmosphere and Weezer's-Pinkerton |
Mole
|
Anything by Stevie Ray Vaungh, Acid Bath, Finger Eleven and NY Hardcore. |
| Brian |
Physical Graffitti by Led Zeppelin and anything by Pantera. |
Charlie
|
I would have to agree on the Weezer Pinkerton. That's one of my favorite albums. I really like Led Zeppelin, Veruca Salt, Bloodhound Gang, Deftones, Will Haven, Faith No More, and Posion the Well. |
SJF |
What was it like to win a SAMMIE? |
Mole |
I don't know I wasn't there. |
Brian
|
It was very overwhelming and a complete surprise. Charlie was freaked and was shaking to the point of falling down when they announced our name. |
Charlie
|
It was an awesome honor. There are so many other bands that deserved it that weren't even nominated. It's a popularity contest as the public votes for one out of 5 nominees. We were up against bands that had been in the scene much longer, bands that were our friends, and one band who had been recently signed, so it was a huge surprise. For me
personally I felt like the geeky wallflower in High School (which I kind of was) who accidentally got Prom Queen. It was so amazing. |
SJF |
What has been the best experience you've had as part of Bipolar? |
Mole |
I don't know yet. |
Brian
|
Playing the Whisky in Hollywood and being able to say that we've played the same stage as such legendary musicians |
Charlie
|
Every time we get on stage, I just can't believe I'm lucky enough to be doing it. Especially with these guys. So I would have to say that experience is the best. |
SJF |
The worst? |
Mole |
Breaking a string on stage at one of our shows and not having a back up prepared. |
Charlie
|
The s**t talking is always hard for me to swallow. I need to thicken up my skin. |
SJF |
What is your songwriting process? |
Brian
|
Basically, Mole, Mogels and I write the music
and arrange it then Charlie decides what parts she
wants changes or extended for her vocals. She writes
her lyrics as we write the music so all of us have our
say. |
SJF |
Favorite places to hang out in the Valley? |
| Mogels |
Anywhere that has Hefeweizen on tap. |
Mole |
The Pick N Pull |
| Brian |
Downtown Sac, in the bars watching the Raiders or the Kings. |
Charlie
|
At home playing voids and drinking beers. Or at the Strip clubs with my friends drinking beers. |
SJF |
What does the future hold for Bipolar? |
| Mole |
Hopefully a paycheck cause we're all broke. |
Brian |
A full length and a tour. |
Charlie |
Full tour, more parties, more shows, and hopefully some label attention. |
